When Aubrie Edgington felt stuck more often than she felt happy, she knew she had to make a change. Although it might be impossible to imagine now, the fitness and nutrition guru once had a fear of the gym that was almost paralyzing. “I’d go in a long sleeve with long pants, trying to hide as much as I could,” says Edgington. “I would go to classes and I felt embarrassed. I hated looking at myself in the mirror and I’d compare myself to everyone else,” she adds.
It wasn’t until she started viewing going to the gym as honoring a commitment she made to herself that she began to let go of her fears and focus on what she was there to do. “I did that on my own and I made a commitment and I didn’t break it. Now I know I can do hard things and I know I don’t need other people to help me,” says Edgington. Since she’s been on every part of the fitness journey, from the struggles to finally seeing the light on the other side, Edgington has made it her mission to help others who may be feeling stuck through her app, Aubrieefit, which lets users workout alongside her exact training schedule, and also gives them a how-to guide to count and track macros.
In fitness, counting your macros (macronutrients) can help you understand how to eat for the type of training you’re doing. The term macros represents the type of nutrients you eat most often for energy: protein, fats, and carbohydrates. On Aubrieefit, you can get a customized macro plan from Edgington herself. “A lot of people have an automated macro calculator where you go on and do it themselves (like MyFitnessPal), but mine is customized,” explains Edgington. “I look at what workouts they're doing, how often they're working out, I go back and forth with them and see what they’re trying to achieve.”
Edgington wanted there to be a fitness space outside of her Instagram where users could go to get all the info they needed to get stronger, tone up, and build a community. “ I felt like I could reach more people on an app than through Instagram,” says Edgington. “Instagram is so saturated; I feel like anyone can post a workout but are they knowledgeable and do they know what they're talking about? Are they well educated?” As a certified personal trainer and nutrition coach, Edgington is truly the total package when it comes to getting on a fitness plan that actually works. “Because I’m a mom of two, I don’t have all the time in the world,” she says. “An app made it more simple for me to upload my workout and let people go to one place to get it.”
Edgington’s kids are a huge motivation for her to not only stay on track with her own fitness and nutrition goals, but to help her clients love themselves and learn that there’s no such thing as “good” or “bad” foods. Once her second child, a girl, was born Edgington remembered all of the body image issues that plagued her and her friends growing up, and wanted something different for the next generation.
“I want to make sure she has the best chance to not have body image issues and she's confident in herself and her skin,” says Edgington. “I love the motto ‘memories over macros.’ I feel like women are like ‘ugh I can't eat that birthday cake’, but to me I’m all about being in the moment to get that memory because life is so short.
