While we celebrate and support fierce, powerful female fitness influencers all year long at Playbook, International Women’s Day gives us an excuse to shout it from the rooftops! International Women’s Day — which falls on March 8 this year — is a global celebration of women and their achievements within the cultural, social, economic, and political spheres. This year’s theme is “gender equality today for a sustainable tomorrow,” and encourages us to #BreakTheBias to create a gender equal world.

We reached out to a few of the strong women on our platform to learn what makes them feel empowered, how they show their strength, and what authenticity means to them. Here’s what they had to say:

Morgan Tyler, Yogi

How do you go against the status quo to be your true, authentic self?

Authenticity as a gay woman is openly stepping into my power and loving who I love.”

Tyler teaches flows in her yoga fitness app that focus on functional core strength and help users to sync their breath with movement. Her app includes everything from quick, 20-minute yoga workouts to yoga tutorials to beauty and wellness tips. She also offers an a.m. “Rise & Shine” program that’s perfect for adding to your morning routine.

Bailey Nomi, Barre & Yoga Fusion Instructor

What makes you feel empowered as a woman?

I’ve empowered myself through knowing that there are no limits that anyone can put on me, no limits that I can put on myself, and therefore if I really focus on what I want, it will happen, and having the confidence that it will.”

Nomi’s fitness app helps women to get to know their body through a unique blend of barre and yoga. She teaches body awareness and body positivity in her fitness app, with a focus on pelvic floor, hip mobility, and thigh-strengthening workouts. Her 30-day “Pelvic Floor and Core” program will help you build pelvic floor and core strength in just 20 minutes a day.

Toya Johnson, Personal Trainer & Nutritionist

What makes you feel empowered as a woman?

I feel empowered as a woman by exhibiting my strength, [both] physically and mentally. I have overcome the toughest of obstacles while still running a business. I feel super empowered when showing my physical strength and abilities in the gym or during a workout. One of my greatest achievements is being able to lead a community to healthier and happier lifestyle choices; in turn helping others feel more empowered.”

Juice and Toya offer workouts, nutrition, motivation, and lifestyle content in their fitness app. Whether you’re looking to lose fat or build muscle, their HIIT-style workouts will help you reach your health and fitness goals. Try their “Bodyweight HIIT” program for a great at-home workout.

Georgina Cox, Personal Trainer & Body Confidence Guru

How do you go against the status quo to be your true, authentic self?

In order to be your true self, it is vital you are taking up space, whether it’s in the gym or in your life. Society has conditioned women to believe we have to take up less space, whether it’s our bodies or our life goals. There is no better feeling than going against the status quo and taking up all the goddamn space you deserve!”

Cox helps women build their confidence through the power of strength and movement in her fitness app. Her “Strong Queen in the Gym” and “Strong Queen at Home” programs are designed to help women appreciate their bodies as they are. Taylor Mei, Certified Personal Trainer

What makes you feel empowered as a woman?

I feel the most empowered when I’m moving my own body, so when I’m doing strength training or calisthenics. Doing movements like push-ups and pull-ups truly make me feel like a strong and powerful woman.”

Mei — who also goes by Little T — shares workouts focused on calisthenics, strength training, and mobility in her fitness app. Her workouts will help you learn to love fitness while training hard. Try her “Gym Workouts” program to build strength in the gym through lower-body, upper-body, full-body, and core workouts.

Allegra Paris, Trainer, Nutrition Coach & Model

What makes you feel empowered as a woman?

I feel empowered as a woman just because I’m an entrepreneur. I work for myself, I can control who I’m working with, what platforms I work with. I’m able to showcase what I do through my social media, the content I create, the platforms that use my content as well. I really believe in staying true to myself, and [am] very authentic on social media in the hopes that I can help other people feel motivated and inspired to keep working on their nutrition and their fitness as well.”

Paris shares attainable workouts and nutrition programs for busy women in her fitness app, and her programs are designed to sculpt and tone your body while getting to know and love yourself better. Her “Full Body” workout program is designed to help you build strength with a mix of bodyweight and dumbbell exercises.
